Tim found her
naked, cold and broken—left for dead in the scrub of an uncaring
desert. Besides obvious physical troubles, she
was unkempt and searching for purpose. It was painfully clear that her
previous family callously tossed her aside—abandoning this helpless
child to a life without meaning. He took her in, gave her purpose, gave
her a name. She would be called Suzy. Suzy Spot for the freckled shapes
along her lone leg.
As it happened, I was heading out for some spot landing practice. And I
needed a spot. Suzy! Perfect, she can again have purpose.
After some clean-up, Tim placed her carefully and comfortably in just
the right place. She enjoyed a good view of the oncoming weather (facing
into the wind) and was now able to sit up quite on her own. She knew this
would bring purpose back to her miserable existence and gave me a thumb's
up as I launched. Well, it was more of a thumb up.
Suzy was going to be my spot landing spot—Suzy Spot.
I launched and proceeded into a series of power-off spot landings from a
few hundred feet. Thanks to Suzy Spot's encouragement it went perfect for
all 5 tries. Too bad this wasn't the World Competition, I'd have aced the
spot landing portion. "Head on", they were.
Tim captured the last three on camera. Suzy was such a trooper, never
complaining once even as limbs left.

Round
3. I'd already made the spot twice but now Tim had his camera. And yes,
this one would have netted me a cage touch DQ but I barely touched! (Sorry
CC)
Even Suzy didn't complain.

If
you look closely you'll see there are fewer and fewer parts remaining
after each touchdown.

The
crowing glory was this one. It was my last one so, Instead of being at
idle, I offed the motor. The final picture is not shown due to its graphic
nature.
This is, after all, a G-rated website.

Meet
Suzy. She doesn't look like much but she was my inspiration during a
recent competition spot landing practice. Photos by Tim Kaiser.
Suzy Spot: Thanks so much for your contribution. I
owe my success to you that day and look forward to returning for more.
With your help, maybe I can even have a chance at winning the next
Nationals!
